Deadline recently questioned Mark Gatiss about the possibility of a new ‘Sherlock’ project at the 2024 Oliver Awards at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The writer shared:
“We’d like to make a film, but trying to get everyone together is very difficult. So, we’ll see.”

When Will The Film Arrive?
Holmes came face to face with his evil sister and Jim Moriarty in the show’s latest season. Gatiss told The Guardian last July that a ‘Sherlock’ film was ‘the natural thing to do’ due to that ending. He commented on a possible release date:
“People think you can just wave a wand. It’s incredibly difficult to get people interested, and get films made. I remember talking to Edgar Wright about ‘Ant-Man,’ into which he put eight years of his life and then didn’t make it. Eight years is not short of a decade.”
The Writers Are Ready To Move Forward
‘Sherlock’ Season 4 came out in January 2017. Plans for a comeback faced delays ever since due to Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s schedule with other projects.
Still, Steven Moffat said last year that he would ‘start writing [a new season] tomorrow’ if the actors agreed. He joked during an appearance on BBC’s ‘Today’:
“They’re on to bigger and better things but, Martin and Benedict, ‘Please come back?’”
Cumberbatch’s new miniseries ‘Eric’ is set to release on May 30, 2024. Freeman appeared in ‘Miller’s Girl’ with Jenna Ortega earlier this January.
