Marvel Star Karen Gillan Trusts James Gunn For Her DCU Future

Gillan hopes to reunite with Gunn again as he takes on new projects in the DC Universe.

Karen Gillan played Nebula in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies, directed by James Gunn. Now that Gunn is involved with the DC Universe, Gillan trusts him to pick the perfect role for her so that they can work together again. She recently told Collider:

“James Gunn is one of my favorite people on the planet, let alone filmmakers, so I would love to work with him again. Of course I would, and I would do it at the drop of a hat. I also feel like I shouldn’t pigeonhole myself by trying to cast myself in a character. I think he knows better. So if it ever happens, I feel like he’s going to choose the right character for me.”

Gillan Likes Working With Gunn

Gillan’s debut as Nebula came in 2014’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ She returned to play the character in the rest of the series and in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and the animated show ‘What If…?’

The actress said about working with James Gunn during her MCU career:

“I’ve learned so much from him. He’s an extraordinary director. He’s actually such a natural leader. He’s going to keep you on track when you try these big swings. He also really embraces those swings and embraces improv, and thinks of improv and feeds it to you in the moment over a microphone. I love working like that because it gets me out of my head.”

She added:

“And then his shots are all incredible. He’s got that balance of it looking really cool, but also being really actor-focused. Sometimes it’s one or the other, but he’s got both, which is really, really exciting.”

She Has Ideas For Her MCU Return

It’s not clear if or when Nebula will return after ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ and the future of the franchise is still up in the air. However, Gillan is interested in exploring more about her character. She previously shared in a chat with Polygon:

“For Nebula, I’m enjoying seeing her take care of other people. I think part of the healing process is eventually getting to the point where you can help other people heal. And so I’d like to see that in Nebula’s future.”

The Marvel actress is currently working on another project. She will play Mary Tudor in an upcoming period comedy called ‘Fools.’
