Marvel Studios is cracking down on people who leak secrets from the sets before the films come out.
They are especially upset with one social media account that recently posted pictures from the set of the new ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ movie. Marvel didn’t like this and decided to take legal action. Matthew Slattof, who works at Marvel as the VP of Global Security and Content Protection, filed a legal request called a DMCA subpoena. As TorrentFreak reports:
“The ‘leak’ was discovered by a senior Disney paralegal and after internal discussions, Marvel’s intellectual property holding, MVL Film Finance, went to court in California. Through a DMCA subpoena, the movie company aims to find out who’s behind the scoop account. … While Instagram stories typically disappear after 24 hours, Marvel would like to know who is behind the alleged leak. According to a declaration from VP Global Security and Content Protection, Matthew Slatoff, the Captain America footage was posted without authorization.”
This request was sent to Instagram to find out who runs the account:
“The film company wants Instagram to share all information that could help to identify the account holder. That includes names, physical addresses, IP addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, and payment account information.”
If Marvel can find out who it is, that person might face a big lawsuit.
What Was The Leak?
@CanWeGetSomeToast leaked pictures of Sam Wilson’s new Captain America suit. These pictures were also part of a recent McDonald’s Happy Meal promotion. Marvel chose this leak as the reason to take action.
Marvel has had problems with leaks for a long time, even back when the first Avengers movie came out. But things are different now. People don’t just make quick, throwaway accounts to share secrets. Some of these ‘insiders’ have now turned their leaks into a business. They even charge people money to see the information they share.
It will be interesting to see if other leakers will stop sharing secrets or if they’ll keep going like nothing happened. Marvel is also getting ready to release ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ later this year and is planning filming dates for ‘Avengers 5.’ It seems they are quite serious about stopping leaks.
