Marvel Studios recently made a surprising request about how Wanda Maximoff should be talked about in ‘Agatha All Along.’
Jac Schaeffer, the showrunner for ‘Agatha All Along,’ revealed that Marvel gave specific instructions on the wording used to describe Wanda’s current status in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I think the word ‘gone’ is important,” she told Deadline. “I was instructed to use the word ‘gone.’”
Using ‘gone’ instead of ‘dead’ leaves room for us to wonder if Wanda might still return. Schaeffer hinted that this specific choice of words could mean Wanda’s story isn’t completely over. Magic and witchcraft play a big role in how characters deal with life and death in ‘Agatha All Along.’ Magical characters in the MCU have special ways of bending the usual rules of life and death, so Wanda’s future could be more complicated than a simple ‘alive’ or ‘dead.’
The last time we saw Wanda was in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ where she appeared to die after destroying all copies of the Darkhold. ‘Agatha All Along’ added a new layer of mystery by not revealing if she survived. Schaeffer thinks Marvel wanted to keep Wanda’s fate vague.
No one confirmed if Wanda was truly dead or alive throughout the season of ‘Agatha All Along.’ Rio Vidal, a character representing ‘Death,’ says in one scene, “That witch is gone, and all copies of the Darkhold with her.” Wanda’s son Billy repeatedly asks about her status, but the show doesn’t answer his questions directly. Schaeffer thinks Agatha Harkness doesn’t know if Wanda is alive, but Rio Vidal does.
Wanda appears to be ‘gone,’ but she could still be out there somewhere.
