It’s been over seven years since the last ‘Jason Bourne’ movie came out, with Matt Damon back as the star after Jeremy Renner took over for one film (‘The Bourne Legacy’). Damon was 32 years old when he first played Bourne in 2002. Now, as he approaches his 50s, another movie is in the works.
The actor recently shared on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ that he’s considering whether to play the Operation Treadstone operative again. He mentioned that it might be time for a new actor to take on the role:
“At a certain point, someone is going to need to take it over. I’m not getting any younger.”
The Possible Director For The Project
Universal Pictures is in the early stages of the sixth movie of the spy thriller franchise. They’re reportedly talking to Edward Berger, who directed ‘All Quiet On The Western Front,’ to possibly helm it.
Damon really likes Berger’s work and thinks he’s a great choice for the job:
“No details have been given to me. No, no, no. There’s a great director named Edward Berger, who directed ‘All Quiet On The Western Front.’ I don’t know if you saw it; it came out recently. Fantastic. A German director, he’s wonderful. And he said he had an idea.”
The Details Are Currently Under Wraps
Right now, it’s unclear if the actor will lead the sixth ‘Bourne’ movie. He’s been in four of the five films so far, marking his return with 2016’s ‘Jason Bourne,’ but everything about the next movie is up in the air. Still, he commented:
“I would love to work with him! So he’s working on it, so I’m looking, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing – I hope it’s great and that we can do it.”
The new movie is still just an idea without a finished script or a set release date. Fans of the ‘Bourne’ series are waiting eagerly for any news about what’s next.
