Matt Smith Gives An Exciting Update On ‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 2

The wait for ‘House of the Dragon’ season two might be over soon.

Matt Smith, who portrays Daemon Targaryen in ‘House of the Dragon,’ has finally provided an update on the upcoming season of the series in a recent interview with Zoe Ball.

While appearing on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on January 12, Smith seemingly revealed the release date of the next season of the ‘Game of Thrones’ sequel:

“August, I think… this summer, yeah.”

Although this isn’t a confirmed date, it aligns with previous announcements stating that the season would premiere in early summer 2024.

Smith also revealed that while post-production is ongoing, he has yet to see any of the finished episodes:

“I’ve not seen any of it yet, but we finished it last year. So we’ve gotta do all the ADR and all that business.”

The actor’s comments come after the release of a teaser trailer in November, which raised anticipation but did not specify a release date.

What to Expect For the Future of the Series?

House of the Dragon‘ is set approximately 100 years after the Targaryen Conquest. The series is based on parts of Martin’s 2018 book ‘Fire & Blood.’

Since its debut on August 21, 2022, the series received critical acclaim for its character development, visual effects, and performances. Despite some critiques regarding pacing and lighting, the premiere of ‘House of the Dragon’ set a record with over 10 million viewers, making it the largest in HBO’s history.

Filming for the second season, which is composed of eight episodes, began on April 11, 2023. The production took place in various locations, including Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in Watford, England, and Cáceres, Spain, wrapping up by September 29, 2023.

Regarding the series’ progress, George R.R. Martin, the co-creator of the show, revealed on his blog in December that discussions for the third and fourth seasons are already underway.

In a change to its creative team, Miguel Sapochnik, who served as a showrunner for the first season, stepped down but continues as an executive producer. Ryan Condal remains the sole showrunner for the upcoming season.

In addition to his role in ‘House of the Dragon’, Matt Smith is also preparing for his next project, ‘The Death of Bunny Munro,‘ where he will take on the title role.
