Matthew Lewis made it clear that he will not return to the Wizarding World in the new TV reboot. The actor played Neville Longbottom in the eight ‘Harry Potter’ films. He recently told People:
“It’s not something I’m looking at or want to do but would not turn my nose up at. I’d be very interested to see if it was Neville as an adult — a whole different vibe. That could be interesting. I would certainly look at that and consider it.”
His words continued:
“The reason I got into this job in the first place was because I have a very short attention span. I am very, very poor at maintaining anything for any length of time. I’ve had many, many hobbies and passions over the years. Not a single one do I still do. I fall madly in love with things and then almost immediately forget about them.”
The Reboot Will Make A Fresh Beginning
HBO Max will renew the original cast for a more book-accurate TV show. Some actors from the film franchise will make cameo appearances in the reboot, according to rumors, though.
Daniel Radcliffe, like Lewis, will not be one of the returning names as he said earlier this year:
“I don’t think so. I think they very wisely want to [have] a clean break. And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it. I’m very happy to just watch along with everyone else.”
The Story Will Follow The Books
The ‘Harry Potter’ show will last around a decade to cover all of J.K. Rowling’s book series. Rowling will be involved in production to make sure that it stays loyal to the original story.
HBO is still looking for a showrunner. Casey Bloys previously said:
“We have been trying to be very close to the vest. We haven’t gone out to agencies. We have our own internal process where we’ve been thinking about people but we have not wanted to go out into the world. Now that the news is out there, we will start working with the Blair Partnership and we’ll start going out to the business.”
The reboot is set for release some time in 2026.
