Matthew Lewis Has A Theory On Why ‘Harry Potter’ Child Actors Didn’t Have Trouble Like Others

The actor played Neville Longbottom opposite Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in the film series that lasted between 2001-2011.

Matthew Lewis talked about his time in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise at Rhode Island Comic-Con, Sunday. During a Q&A panel (per People), he offered thoughts on how he and his co-stars managed to navigate their early fame without the typical challenges faced by many child actors.

“One of the questions that was asked earlier, about the pitfalls of being a child actor that we seem to have avoided, I would posit that a large degree of that was because we were all there together,” the actor explained. “Frequently, you hear many stories of how they were the sole actor in that movie and having to carry that movie on their own and all of the pressures and anxieties that come with that. Whereas, we were all kind of together.”

Appreciating the friendship they built during the production, he added that “a lot of the fears that we had were all shared and the thing not really of anymore for anyone else in the world will never be able to understand really what we went through and how it affected our personal lives except each other.”

Now, the franchise is getting ready to introduce a new set of child actors in an upcoming reboot. Warner Bros., and HBO are looking for young stars to play the Golden Trio in the new ‘Harry Potter’ series.

The casting announcement came back in September, looking for actors aged 9 to 11 from any race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, and religion.

Lewis, along with many of the original cast, showed no interest in appearing in the new series despite fans’ wishes.
