Matthew Lillard is famous for his roles in ‘Scooby-Doo’ and ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s.’ He joked about a crossover in a social media post, but in a YouTube interview with JayBee & Milly, he said it’s not happening anytime soon:
“No, those two will never meet. Those two is not a match-up anyone wants or needs. No, I just… Jim Hensen [Workshop] does the costumes for both, and it was too great of an opportunity to pass up, and really changed my social media in a crazy way, which was like, millions of hits or something. So, that was fun. I thought that fans of both franchises would get a kick out of it.”
In May, Lillard posted on Instagram about ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ coming out in December 2025. He shared a photo of himself in his Springtrap outfit with a Scooby-Doo statue. The post got almost two million likes and excited fans of both franchises. He wrote in the caption:
“December 2025. I ALWAYS COME BACK.”
Details About ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’
In ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s,’ Lillard played the main villain, William Afton. He has a three-movie deal with the franchise. If they make a third film, he will likely be in it.
The first movie, directed by Emma Tammi and starring Josh Hutcherson, was a big hit in 2023. It made nearly $300 million on a $20 million budget, Blumhouse’s highest-grossing film. Critics didn’t love it, but the financial success led to plans for a sequel.
‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ is based on a video game series by Scott Cawthon. He co-wrote the movie script with Seth Cuddeback and Emma Tammi. The story is about a night shift security guard at an abandoned pizzeria where animatronics come to life.
The movie stars Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Mary Stuart Masterson. ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ will be released on Dec. 5, 2025.
