In his new memoir ‘Greenlights,’ out Tuesday, the Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey revealed several disturbing incidents he had experienced as a teenager and reflected on the moments in both his professional and personal life.
Throughout the book, McConaughey identifies all crucial memories as green, yellow or red lights. As you would understand, green ones represent good memories and red ones represent bad or disturbing memories in the 50-year-old star’s life.
One of the red moments in the book was when McConaughey reveals that his first time having sex was not consensual, and that he was “blackmailed” into it, according to Variety reports.
“I was blackmailed into having sex for the first time when I was 15. I was certain I was going to hell for the premarital sex. Today, I am merely certain that I hope that’s not the case.”
McConaughey also wrote:
“I was molested by a man when I was eighteen while knocked unconscious in the back of a van.”
McConaughey kept details of the ordeal sparse, though he did say he had “never felt like a victim.” He added that he had a lot of proof that the world was conspiring to make him happy.
Further details can be learned throughout his book published by the Crown Publishing Group.
