Variety recently reported that Max canceled ‘Pretty Little Liars’ reboot after its Season 2, ‘Summer School.’ The series first premiered in 2022 under the subtitle ‘Original Sin’ and concluded its second season in June of this year.
“While Max will not be moving forward with a third season of ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ we are so grateful to our co-creators, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, as well as the team at Warner Bros. Television, for reintroducing fans to this new iteration of liars who band together to fight the latest creepy villain terrifying Millwood,” Max’s statement read.
“Their unique and modern creative vision – combined with the immense talent of our cast and crew – gave the series a fun, horror-filled point of view that paid tribute to its original Rosewood roots.”
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring served as both creators and executive producers for the series. The production team also included Leslie Moregenstein and Gina Girolamo of Alloy Entertainment, original series creator Marlene King, and Michael Grassi.
The original series debuted in 2010 and ran for seven seasons, ending in 2017. The spinoff shows ‘Ravenswood’ and ‘Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists’ followed in 2013 and 2019, each lasting only one season.
The creators hoped that their version, which is the fourth show in the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ franchise based on Sara Shepard’s book series, would continue beyond the second season.
“We think we’re just getting started,” Aguirre-Sacasa previously told Entertainment Weekly. “We’re so hopeful for a Season 3… Our dream scenario would be that the show runs five seasons so that each of the PLLs gets one last episode where they’re the ultimate, final, final girl. So, we’re very hopeful and have had a lot of conversations. So, we’re ready, but living in the moment.”
‘Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’ featured a new group of five teenage girls harassed by the mysterious ‘A,’ who sought revenge for a two-decade-old incident involving their mothers.
The cast included Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, Mallory Bechtel, Sharon Leal, Alex Aiono, Lea Salonga, Jordan Gonzalez, and Elias Kacavas.
