Melissa Fumero Criticizes French-Canadian Remake Of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ For “White Cast”

Actress Melisa Fumero, portraying ‘Amy Santiago’ on ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ took to Twitter to share some thoughts on French-Canadian remake of the series. Fumero criticized the new version for its predominantly white cast, and wrote the following message alongside a trailer of the series, on Twitter:

“OMG OMG OMG‼️ This is like peeking through another dimension.”

Then, the actress posted another tweet that Stephanie Beatriz, representing ‘Rosa Diaz’ in the series, weighed in:

“Gotta day though after watching this… I’m suddenly curious about the Latina population in Quebec. Just saying 🤔”

As known, the characters ‘Amy Santiago’ and ‘Rosa Diaz,’ has been played by Latin actress in the original version. However, these characters turned into ‘Fanny’ and ‘Rosalie’ and portrayed by the white actress for the French-Canadian remake.

Fumero continued:

“I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and it basically comes down to this… while I understand the Latina population is v small in Quebec (& how many of them are funny actors?) the Amy n Rosa roles could’ve gone to ANY BIPOC so it’s disappointing to see that missed opportunity.”

The actress also added that her intention was not shaming the actresses portraying ‘Amy Santiago’ and ‘Rosa Diaz’ and concluded her words as follows:

“Furthermore, I love actors so I do not mean to shame these actresses, it’s not their fault… it’s up to the decision-makers. Also, you guyssssss Amy is not sexy ON PURPOSE. So that bums me out too.”

Here are the mentioned tweets.
