‘Mortal Kombat’ Sequel Finally Has A Release Date

The sequel will feature many returning actors and new characters.

The sequel to the ‘Mortal Kombat’ movie now has a release date.

Warner Bros. announced that ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ will hit theaters on October 24, 2025. The first film was released during the pandemic in 2021 and was available on HBO Max, but this sequel will be shown exclusively in theaters, including IMAX.

The filming for ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ was completed in January 2024. Lewis Tan previously said that the sequel would be much larger in scale compared to the first movie:

“#2 is just going to be absolutely insane. Way bigger.”

Ed Boon, who co-created the original ‘Mortal Kombat’ video game, is also involved in the project.

The First Movie Was a Big Hit

‘Mortal Kombat’ became the most-streamed film of the year on HBO Max. Now, the sequel is expected to be even bigger. Simon McQuoid is back to direct the sequel. The script is written by ‘Moon Knight’s Jeremy Slater. The film is produced by James Wan, Michael Clear, Todd Garner, E. Bennett Walsh, and Simon McQuoid.

Many names from the first movie will return, including Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax Briggs, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.

There will also be new characters played by Karl Urban (Johnny Cage), Tati Gabrielle (Jade), Adeline Rudolph (Kitana), Martyn Ford (Shao Kahn), Desmond Chiam (King Jerrod), Ana Thu Nguyen (Queen Sindel), CJ Bloomfield (Baraka), and Damon Herriman (Quan Chi).
