‘Ms. Marvel’ is one of the most prominent comic book characters created in the 2010s and has grown in popularity since actress Iman Vellani began portraying her in the MCU. Vellani, a passionate ‘Ms. Marvel’ fan, has even written several ‘Ms. Marvel’ comics. The MCU’s portrayal of ‘Ms. Marvel’ significantly impacted the character, as the comic book version now appears as a mutant, just like in the MCU.
According to an analysis by ComicBook, Steve Foxe and Ivan Fiorelli’s Timeslide #1 offers some important hints for 2025. In the story, Cable and Bishop battle an enemy attempting to rewrite mutant history, traveling to the past and future to save their people. At one point, they are brought by the X-Man Bronze to see a list of future events, one of which includes a crucial clue about ‘Ms. Marvel:’ “Ms. Marvel Second Genesis.” Ms. Marvel also makes an appearance in the book, with this appearance directly linked to the term “Second Genesis.”
Early in Timeslide #1, Cable and Bishop find themselves in the past, witnessing the battle between Dark Phoenix and the X-Men. However, they spot something unusual—Ms. Marvel is alongside the X-Men, fighting Dark Phoenix. The issue explains that Vacuna, a time-eating villain, has caused changes to the timestream, which could explain this anachronistic moment. However, the later reveal of the “Ms. Marvel Second Genesis” tease suggests this event isn’t merely a product of time manipulation but could indicate that ‘Ms. Marvel’ is destined to travel back in time and work with the ‘X-Men.’
“Second Genesis” is a reference to 1974’s Giant-Size X-Men #1, which introduced the second incarnation of the team. This iconic lineup—including Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Colossus—became sales titans and laid the foundation for classic stories such as the “Dark Phoenix Saga,” in which Jean Grey becomes the host for the cosmic force. This context suggests that Ms. Marvel’s presence during the Dark Phoenix battle might not be accidental but a sign of her involvement in this era.
‘Ms. Marvel’ has a rich history of working with Marvel teams. She has been an Avenger, reformed the Champions as a teen team, collaborated with the Inhumans, and aided the X-Men in their battles against Orchis. If her teased Second Genesis storyline takes her back to the early days of the X-Men—helping them battle foes like the Sentinels and Magneto, and witnessing the Dark Phoenix Saga firsthand—it would be a perfect fit for her character. Ms. Marvel, a superhero fangirl, interacting with the legendary ‘X-Men’ during their most famous adventure would be a golden storytelling opportunity.
