In a twist of fate, Natalie Portman recently met Mark Hamill, who played her son, Luke Skywalker, in the original series. During her appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ she expressed her excitement about meeting Hamill for the first time.
This encounter took place at the 2024 Golden Globes. Portman, 42, was a nominee at the event for her role in ‘May December.’ During the conversation, Kimmel revealed his surprise after hearing that she and Hamill met for the first time. Portman then confirmed this, noting that Hamill humorously called her his mother:
“I know — I met Mark Hamill for the first time, and he called me his mother. I was like, ‘Oh!’ It was the coolest thing!”
Kimmel then showed a photo of the two, which Hamill originally posted on his social media. He asked Portman if they had never come across each other during any Star Wars event. As a response, the actress said:
“Yeah, it was the first time we had ever met. Luckily, I had met Carrie Fisher before. She’s such an icon of mine. And then, this was my first time meeting Mark.”

Portman Was Wishing to Meet Hamill
Hamill, 72, had never met Portman before, despite their shared history in the Star Wars universe. He expressed his own surprise at never having been introduced to her with a tweet in 2018:
“FUN FACT: I’ve never met this woman.”
The same week, Portman openly expressed her desire to meet him in an episode of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert:
“I know; it’s such a shame. I would love to meet him. Mark, I would love to meet you. Where are ya? Come over!”
Both Portman and Hamill Have Busy Schedules Ahead
Portman has four upcoming projects: the TV mini-series ‘Lady in the Lake’ and ‘We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves,’ and the films ‘Fountain of Youth!’ and ‘Foxy Trotter.’
Mark Hamill’s future projects include ‘The Life of Chuck,’ ‘Thelomeris: City of Darkness,’ and the TV movie ‘Relatively Super.’
The Golden Globes event not only marked the meeting of Star Wars’ Luke Skywalker and Padmé Amidala. Hamill presented an award for a new category, cinematic box office achievement, while Portman was in the running for her performance in ‘May December.’
