New Female-Led ‘Spider-Man’ Movie Is Reportedly In Works At Sony

There’s exciting news for Spider-Man fans: Sony is working on two new movies. One will focus on Spider-Man’s enemies, and the other will have a female hero.

According to Comic Book Movie, rumors are circulating that Sony Pictures is expanding its animated Spider-Verse with at least two new projects, including a female-led Spider-Man movie, separate from the previously announced Spider-Woman film.

As per CBM, insiders, including Daniel Richtman, recently hinted at a movie that will shine a spotlight on some of the villains from Spider-Man’s rogues gallery, and another mysterious, female-centric Spider-Man film.

While details remain scarce, a Gwen Stacy Spider-Verse spin-off is one possibility being floated. Interestingly, there were whispers of a spin-off featuring Aunt May in a leading role, although considered unlikely.

Sony’s Recent Projects Were Disappointing

The news about a female-led movie comes at a time when Sony’s live-action Spider-Man Universe (SSU) faces challenges, with recent movies like ‘Morbius’ and ‘Madame Web’ failing to meet expectations. Despite the performance of ‘Madame Web,’ Sony had high hopes for the film, including plans for a direct sequel and character spin-offs.

Looking ahead, Sony is placing its bets on a third ‘Venom’ movie slated for November 8, 2024, and possibly a ‘Kraven the Hunter’ film, in hopes of saving the SSU.

In a related update, Sony’s animated feature, ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse,’ is set to bring back fan-favorite characters. Shameik Moore returns as Miles Morales alongside Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and a cast that promises to bring the multiverse to life.
