Christopher McQuarrie, director of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise, shared insights about ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ in an interview with Empire Magazine.
McQuarrie revealed that during a small test screening, one audience member had an intense reaction to the film: “We had a small screening and someone said, ‘I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack.’ And I thought, ‘I guess we did something right.’”
The future of Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, remains unclear following ‘The Final Reckoning.’ When the film was initially announced alongside its predecessor, ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,’ it was intended as a direct sequel, even carrying the title ‘Part 2.’ However, after ‘Dead Reckoning’ underperformed at the box office, Paramount decided to sever the narrative ties between the two films.
Rumors emerged late last year that Cruise was searching for an actor to portray a young Ethan Hunt in a flashback sequence in ‘The Final Reckoning.’ The intention was to introduce the character into a potential ninth installment. However, no concrete plans for ‘Mission: Impossible 9’ have been announced, and the continuation of the franchise may hinge on the success of ‘The Final Reckoning,’ which is set to release in May.
The film stars Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, alongside Vanessa Kirby in a leading role.
