New Sherlock Holmes Series Is In Work Starring Fiennes Tiffin Instead Of Robert Downey Jr.

Tiffin will play a younger Sherlock Holmes in a new TV series.

Amazon Prime Video is set to make a series adapted from Andy Lane’s ‘Young Sherlock Holmes’ novels. Hero Fiennes Tiffin is cast as the lead, according to Variety.

The series will reunite director Guy Ritchie and Tiffin, following their recent collaboration on ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.’ Ritchie will direct and executive produce the series’ eight episodes.

The director previously worked on two of Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes films. He commented on his new prject as follows:

“In ‘Young Sherlock’ we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before. We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”

The Team Behind The New Amazon Show

Andy Lane wrote eight ‘Young Sherlock Holmes’ books, and the last one came out in 2015. The author will now join the Amazon project as an executive producer. Joining him are Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell of Motive Pictures, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, and the company’s former head of series development, Marc Resteghini.

Harriet Creelman will also be in the production team as a co-executive producer for Motive Pictures along with Simon Kelton from Inspirational Entertainment. Kelton originally partnered with Atkinson for the show before bringing it to Amazon MGM Studios.

Matthew Parkhill will serve as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer. The plot will focus on 19-year-old ‘disgraced,’ ‘unfiltered,’ and ‘unformed’ Holmes trying to solve a murder case at Oxford University.
