Nicholas Hoult Reflects On Playing Lex Luthor In ‘Superman’

He hopes to create a version of Lex that fans will enjoy and remember.

As we eagerly await the first trailer for ‘Superman,’ Nicholas Hoult recently shared his excitement about taking on Lex Luthor role.

Hoult spoke with Deadline about playing Lex Luthor and his admiration for the character. “I’m a fan of Superman and Lex Luthor as a character, so hopefully we’ve done something special with it that people enjoy,” Hoult said. This version of Lex Luthor is expected to be a ‘mad scientist.’ This adds a fresh twist to the character as he’s been seen on screen with many versions over the years.

Hoult also praised working with director James Gunn, calling him an ‘incredible director’ with a strong vision. “I think he/s an incredible director and has such a great sense of that world, that story, those characters. I just put my trust in him,” he said.

Hoult gave fans a glimpse of his new look for the role in May. He posted photos on Instagram where he showed off his shaved head at a Ferrari racing event at Laguna Seca. Fans praised Hoult’s appearance in the post’s comments. One even joked, “R.I.P. Nicholas Hoult’s hair. Gone, but never forgotten.”

The first trailer for Superman is expected to debut in December, likely during Brazil’s CCXP event. When a fan asked about the trailer’s release date on social media, Gunn replied that it’s ‘not finished’ and shared that he was working on it over the weekend.

‘Superman’ is set to release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
