Directed by Oz Perkins, ‘Longlegs’ spans 30 years from the 1970s to the late 1990s. It follows FBI Agent Lee Harker (played by Maika Monroe), who investigates an unsolved serial killer case involving the occult.
Harker finds a personal link to the killer and aims to stop him before he strikes again. The new trailer reveals little but gives a first look at Nicolas Cage’s mysterious character. Cage’s role and Monroe’s investigation are unclear. Quick clips show Cage yelling while driving and a strange moment where he seems to be sniffing a doll.
Other Details From The Upcoming Movie
The video’s description is cryptic: ‘As many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.’ This line is from the Bible’s Book of Revelation about an anti-Christ figure. The film’s marketing includes religious references like nuns, crosses, and prayer.
The teasers and trailer don’t reveal much about the plot, but the film’s IMDb synopsis says:
“FBI Agent Lee Harker is assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes unexpected turns, revealing evidence of the occult. Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again.”
Early reviews call it the ‘scariest film of the decade’ and a must-see. One review compares it to 1991’s ‘The Silence of the Lambs,’ and calls it the best serial killer film since then.
‘Longlegs’ has a great cast, including Maika Monroe. Monroe’s horror career started with 2014’s ‘It Follows.’ She has also starred in ‘Watcher,’ ‘Significant Other,’ and ‘Villains.’ ‘Longlegs’ also features Kiernan Shipka, Alicia Witt, and Blair Underwood.
‘Longlegs’ will arrive in theaters on July 12, 2024. The film was filmed in Vancouver in early 2023.
