In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nicole Eggert talked about how it felt to be famous with ‘Baywatch’:
“I definitely have a love-hate relationship with the show. It’s been an evolution, and I appreciate it and I’m proud of it, but I really want people to see who we all really are. I see a lot of articles where there’s a picture of me, at 19 and in a swimsuit, next to me at 52 at the market. And it’s like, ‘What happened to her?’ Let’s talk about that. Everybody [here] has a story.”
The original ‘Baywatch’ ended 25 years ago but remains very popular. There was a spin-off, a poorly received movie, and talk of a reboot, but none matched the original’s impact. The show depicted a fictional Southern California with a changing cast of fit. Now, it’s finally getting a documentary.
More Details About The Documentary
Many former ‘Baywatch’ cast members, including Pamela Anderson, joined the documentary ‘After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun,’ premiering on Hulu on August 28. Some, like Traci Bingham and Erika Eleniak, promoted it in Pasadena, but Anderson did not attend.
Eggert is also a producer, but she initially faced challenges turning it into a reality show, which she didn’t want. Producer and director Matthew Felker helped shift it to a documentary.
David Hasselhoff didn’t attend the TCA panel, but Eggert said he fully participated in the Hulu project. Eggert called Hasselhoff first before starting the documentary:
“I thought if he will do it, then we have something here. That was my driving force in the beginning. And when he said, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it.’ It was like, ‘Let’s go!'”
The show was based on Gregory Bonann’s experience as an LA County lifeguard. In 2017, a ‘Baywatch’ movie with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron came out. Fox is now working on a ‘Baywatch’ reboot with Fremantle. Lara Olsen from ‘Spinning Out’ will be the showrunner and executive producer.
