Nicole Kidman Criticizes Hollywood’s Blockbuster-First Mentality With ‘Deadpool’ Dig

According to Nicole Kidman, it’s harder to make and approve projects these days.

In a new conversation with Vanity Fair, Nicole Kidman slammed Hollywood’s blockbuster-first attitude with a ‘Deadpool’ comment.

“Everything’s hard now,” the actress said. “Actually everything. I mean, maybe not ‘Deadpool,’ but there’s nothing that’s, ‘Oh my gosh. Yep. This is it. Greenlight, let’s go.'”

She continued, “Or maybe it’s just the things that I do [Laughs]. I just think that’s the nature of what we’re dealing with now. Things are shrinking in terms of shows being done and films being made. I definitely feel it. I’m sure most people in the industry feel it. I know the crews feel it. I know writers feel it.”

This isn’t the only criticism Hollywood has had recently. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Sydney Sweeney criticized people in Hollywood who act like they support women but actually hurt them.

She noted, “It’s very disheartening to see women tear other women down. Especially when women who are successful in other avenues of their industry see younger talent working really hard—hoping to achieve whatever dreams that they may have—and then trying to bash and discredit any work that they’ve done.”

“This entire industry, all people say is ‘Women empowering other women.’ None of it’s happening. All of it is fake and a front for all the other sh*t that they say behind everyone’s back,” Sweeney added.

In the same interview, Kidman also mentioned a few directors she hopes to work with, including Kathryn Bigelow and Paul Thomas Anderson. She also hinted at Martin Scorsese. The actress said she would like to work with him if he makes a film with women.

Kidman is working on a new project called ‘Scarpetta’ for Prime Video. It’s q mystery thriller based on a popular book series. Kidman will star and help produce, along with Jamie Lee Curtis. Kidman will also appear in ‘Babygirl,’ an erotic thriller, which will be in theaters on Christmas Day.
