Academy Award-winning star Octavia Spencer was quick to pay tribute to the co-founder of The Supremes, Mary Wilson.
As known, it was announced by her longtime publicist, Jay Schwartz that vocalist Wilson passed away on February 8 at her home in LA. Regarding the cause of death of Wilson, no information was provided; it is only known that funeral services will be private due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Once the devastating news that the legendary singer passed away at the age of 76, a great number of names in celebs world flooded social media. As one of them, the ‘Self Made‘ star, Spencer took to her verified Instagram account on February 9, posted a recent photo of the artist, and added a heartfelt caption to say goodbye to her.
Stating that the ‘Baby Love‘ hitmaker was her childhood hero, Spencer wrote:
“One of my favorite things to do as kid was pretending I was a #supreme singing right next to you. R.I.P #MaryWilson”
As Spencer said in her tribute, Wilson and The Supremes impressed American youth deeply; the girl group became the best-charting female group in U.S. chart history, in addition to having been marked as one of the best-selling girl groups of all-time.
The Supremes record producer Berry Gordy issued the following statement:
“I was extremely shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of a major member of the Motown family, Mary Wilson of the Supreme.”
