Three-time Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actor Octavia Spencer took to Instagram and introduced her new movie, ‘The Witches,’ to fans and followers with her own words.
Spencer, portraying ‘Grandma’ who is an old rival of the ‘Grand High Witch’ in the dark fantasy comedy film, announced the Robert Zemeckis’ art piece was released by HBOmax on October 22. Alongside the official movie poster, the Academy Award-winning actor wrote that ‘The Witches’ offers a “deliciously evil fun” landscape for the audience:
“Today is the day to start streaming The Witches on HBOmax. I love that Bob Zemeckis created a diverse landscape of deliciously evil fun thanks to a fantastic script by Guillermo Del Toro and Kenya Barris.”
Spencer continued regarding the movie whose leading roles belong to Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, and Stanley Tucci.
“We had a ball filming in London last year with Anne, Stanley, Jahzir, Codie, and Morgana. Tune in!!! BwaHahaha (vincent price laugh) #YoungGrandmasRule #WomenMarriedYoungInThe50s #AreYouAWitchophile”
As known, the filming of a feature-length adaptation of the novel by Roald Dahl, ‘The Witches’ started on May 8, 2019. It was originally scheduled for a theatrical release by Warner Bros. Pictures, however, it was pulled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As soon as the movie was released in October, it received mixed reviews. IndieWire David Ehrlich wrote about:
“Zemeckis has made some unsuccessful films over the last 20 years, but ‘The Witches’ is the most frustrating of them all because it feels like it could’ve been made by somebody else. Anybody else. Roeg’s version may have scarred a generation of kids for life, but at least they remembered it.”
