Octavia Spencer, receiving countless awards including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards throughout her acting career, supported Ellen DeGeneres against the toxic work environment claims.
As known, the former and current employees of Ellen DeGeneres Show claimed that they faced racism and intimidation in the workplace, and then the authorities started an investigation for the show. In order to show her support amid these claims, Octavia Spencer took to Instagram the other day; posted an old photo of the host, Ellen DeGeneres and wrote as a caption:
“All of my interactions with everyone from the show including ELLEN were supportive and fun! In that spirit, I am praying all involved get the love and support they need.”
However, her post grabbed negative reactions, and Spencer, one of two women of color to have received three Oscar nominations, intended to clarify the issue. She added:
“UPDATE: lively debate happening in the comments. I welcome that. I also believe that all of the voices of her employees need to be heard. Past and present. Speaking truth to power is the only way change happens. My truth is everyone was kind to me. From the PAs to the producers. So yeah! I want all of those people to feel valued and heard. And no, people are NOT always kind to talent!”
The ‘Hidden Figures’ actress concluded her message with the following hashtags: #AllVoicesNeedToBeHeard #beyekindonetoanother
