Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman took to Instagram on the 26th anniversary of ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ which has been the number 1 film on IMDb’s Top 250 since 2008, in order to thank the audience for making the movie one of the most beloved ones throughout cinema history.
Freeman, portraying ‘Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding,’ a prison contraband smuggler, in the 1994 dated drama film, posted a series of snaps from the movie and the set, adding the following note:
“It has been 26 years since #ShawshankRedemption came out in theaters and I’m still thankful to everyone who made our box office flop one of the most beloved movies of all time.”
Then the actor, by sharing his first, asked fans to share their favorite movie quotes. As known, the film based on Stephen King’s novel “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption,” has been remembered not only with its story-line but also with its quotes:
“Share your favorite movie quotes with me, mine is, ‘I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.’”
‘The Shawshank Redemption,’ written and directed by Frank Darabont, was released on September 10, 1994, received positive reviews due to performances of Freeman and Tim Robbins.
Also, it received a good number of award nominations including seven Academy Award and two Golden Globe Award nominations. The lead actors, Robbins and Freeman were both nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role at Screen Actors Guild Awards in 1995.
The film, which grossed $58.3 million during its theatrical run, was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress in 2015 due to its historical, cultural, and aesthetical success.
