Orlando Bloom Is Waiting For An Offer To Reprise Legolas Role In ‘Lord Of The Rings’

Orlando Bloom might play Legolas again in ‘Lord of the Rings.’

In a recent interview with Variety, Orlando Bloom said he talked to director Andy Serkis about new ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies and wants to come back.

“Oh, man, those things are amazing. Yeah,” the actor replied when asked if he wanted to return to the Tolkien movies. “I don’t know how they’d do it. I guess with AI you can do anything these days. But, if Pete [Peter Jackson] says jump, I say, ‘how high?’ I mean, he started my whole career.”

“I really don’t know what [they are planning],” Bloom continued. “I did speak to Andy [Serkis] and he did say they were thinking about how to do things. I was like, ‘How would that even work?’ And he was like, ‘Well, AI!’ and I was like, ‘Oh, OK!’ It was a pretty magical time in my life, and it’s one of those things where there’s not a downside to it.”

The new Middle-earth movies will start in 2026 with ‘Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,’ directed by Serkis, who will also play Gollum. Peter Jackson will produce the film with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. This movie will kick off a new live-action ‘Lord of the Rings’ series.

Bloom also said in June that he wanted to play Legolas. He shared his wish at Superhero Comic Con 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. Agents of Fandom posted his comments from a panel led by Angélique Roché, where Bloom talked about his favorite roles to revisit.

“I was only like 20 years old when I went out to New Zealand for ‘Lord of The Rings,’ I turned 21 a couple of months into filming and like… inhabiting the headspace of an elf is really fun,” the actor recalled.

“I had missed Tolkien. I had missed Tolkien’s mind and I’d missed his world and I’d missed his vision – and I think they just stepped back into Tolkien’s world,” Bloom previously told the Radio Times about ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.’

He added, “I thought it was really courageous. It’s not an easy thing to take on another version of something that had such a remarkable run of its own, but I thought it was really admirable; the casting, the story and the way they approached the world… I’m looking forward to more of it.”

The new ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies are still being developed. Ian McKellen said he’s been told Gandalf will be in them and they hope he’ll play the role, but he doesn’t know when or what the script will be like yet.
