Sam Heughan, best known for her roles in fan-favorite series such as ‘Outlander‘ and ‘River City‘ jumped into his verified Instagram account to mark a highly special day for Scottish history.
The actor, portraying ‘Jamie Fraser‘ in the Diana Gabaldon-created TV series, posted a group photo with the Inverness Youth Pipe band and commemorated the final confrontation of the Jacobite rising of 1745, the Battle of Culloden.
The Scottish actor and producer wrote the following message in honor of the 275th anniversary of the battle which resulted in 1250 Jacobites died:
“Today marks the 275th Anniversary of the Battle of Culloden. A pivotal moment in Scottish history (and affected the rest of the world!). We were lucky to shoot @meninkiltsstarz with the Inverness Youth Pipe band (the same age as some of the boys that fought that day).”
The co-author of the book titled “Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other” continued as follows:
“What a talented bunch and a fitting tribute! (Lucky we weren’t asked to play) @cullodenbattlefield”
Following the post, one of the most known supporters of Scottish independence from the United Kingdom, received highly positive comments from his fans and followers. A great number of users of the photo-sharing platform stated that he has taught them so much about Scotland and its history. So much so that, a fan of him stated in the comments section that she is ordering books and learning more on her own about Scottish culture.
