Patti Smith revealed that she was a fan of Netflix’s ‘The Queen’s Gambit.’
On 31 October, “punk poet laureate,” Patti Smith took to Instagram to share what she was doing on Holloween night; she uploaded a series of photos of her 15 inch TV while ‘The Queen’s Gambit‘ on its screen. With her specific turn of expression, the musician and poet told of how much she liked the show.
Alongside the photos, Smith posted a rime she penned for the series, based on Walter Tevis’s novel of the same name. In the rime, she expressed that she had totally captivated by the said miniseries, and described the story of it as her kind of escape:
“This is /why I love my little 15 inch TV. / Because at night, after work / is done, I can watch my shows. / Mostly British detective shows, / but the last seven nights I was / completely captivated by The / Queens Gambit, a beguiling / a swirl of genius and madness/ pills and chess. Yes, it was / escape, my kind of escape.”
Then Smith continued by speaking over her Halloween night plans; she wrote that she would make a cup of black decaf and watch the drama television miniseries, created by Scott Frank and Allan Scott, over and over again.
Netflix’s series, which captivated millions apart from Smith, released on October 23, 2020. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy (as Beth Harmon), Bill Camp (as Mr. Shaibel), Moses Ingram (as Jolene), Christiane Seidel (as Helen Deardorff), and Rebecca Root (as Miss Lonsdale), became the most-watched series on the platform on October 28.
