Paul Walter Hauser Admits He Wasn’t Really Eager To Join MCU

The strong team and promising script convinced him to sign on for the new film, though.

Paul Walter Hauser recently shared that he was hesitant to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hauser joined the cast of the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ movie, but he revealed he had doubts about taking the role.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hauser explained that the previous attempts to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen made him think twice. He defended himself by saying the past films all received poor reviews:

“Don’t think that didn’t weigh in as I was deciding whether or not to take the job. That movie has not fully been nailed just yet.”

Hauser later decided to join the project because he was impressed by the script, the team working on the film, and the cast:

“But I really do think the combination of the screenplay, and the department heads that are working on the film, and that classy cast of really exciting actors — some of them known for a long time, and some of them having a moment right now — [make me feel that] this movie is special, and it was something I wanted to be a part of.”

He Might Be Playing Mole Man or H.E.R.B.I.E.

Hauser spoke to Screen Rant in May and described his character as ‘very distinct.’ There are rumors about his character, but he did not reveal who he’d be playing:

“I know what that question is leading to, which is the answer as to which character I’m to play. So all I can say is that I, in some iteration, am in the movie ‘The Fantastic Four’ until I get fired or recast. So I can’t say anything about the character I’m playing but know that it is in the sort of lexicon and mythology of ‘The Fantastic Four’ stories. And it’s a very distinct character that I’m excited to play and I’m kind of mapping out what I’m doing with that right now. “

The new ‘Fantastic Four’ film is directed by Matt Shakman, and it is set to release on July 25 next year. The movie will feature Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Other cast members include Ralph Ineson as Galactus, Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, and John Malkovich in an undisclosed role.

Hauser said that he and Shakman had worked together before on an episode of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.’ He’s excited to collaborate with him again.
