During a Career Retrospective Q&A with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Pedro Pascal revealed that before landing his role in ‘Narcos,’ he was in the running for a part in the original ‘Daredevil’ series. The actor shared:
“I got ‘Narcos’ because of ‘Game Of Thrones’ – they were shocked to know that I was available because the fight scene had not aired yet.”
His character, Oberyn Martell, was killed off in the show, freeing his schedule. He went on:
“So, really, this is a major [confession]. I did audition for [‘Narcos’]. I did not get the part. They offered it to somebody else, and then that person fell out. But, at that point, the fourth season of ‘Game Of Thrones’ was airing, and when the actor fell out of the role, I was auditioning for ‘Daredevil’ for Marvel.”
Who Was He Going To Play?
Pascal clarified that the ‘Daredevil’ role he was considered for was not the lead character, Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, but rather a supporting character, an attorney, whose name he couldn’t recall at the moment.
A bigger role in the other Netflix project came when the actor was in the screen test for the ‘Daredevil’ role, pitting the two shows against each other:
“It was like a supporting character [for ‘Daredevil’]. You know, ‘Character Number Six.’ He was a lawyer; I can’t remember the name… So, I was going to test for that role, and so, to intercept the test, they ended up offering me the ‘Narcos’ [role]. It was like Netflix against Netflix.”
His Possible Part In A New MCU Project
In ‘Narcos,’ Pascal took on the role of Javier Peña, a former DEA agent, which he followed with a leading part in ‘The Mandalorian.’ Besides the ‘Star Wars’ show, he gathered attention for his acting in HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us,’ earning nominations for his performance.
Rumors suggest the actor might play Reed Richards, one of the main heroes in Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot, but official confirmation has yet to be announced. Still, a recent update on his SAG-AFTRA profile read:
“Pascal recently wrapped production on Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated ‘Gladiator 2’ and will soon begin production on Marvel Studios’ ‘Fantastic Four.’”
Meanwhile, Pascal’s character in ‘The Mandalorian’ will appear on the big screen with the upcoming ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ film, set to start production this June.
