Pedro Pascal seems to be diving into the superhero world with Marvel Studios’ ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot. The actor’s SAG-AFTRA profile recently revealed that he’s about to kick off production on the much-talked-about project. Although the character Pascal will play is still a mystery, earlier reports suggest he might snag the role of Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic.
Straight from his profile:
“Pedro Pascal can currently be seen starring opposite Ethan Hawke in Pedro Almodóvar’s short film, ‘A Strang Way Of Life,’ which first premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Up next, Pascal can be seen starring in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s independent film, ‘Freaky Tales,’ which is set to premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Pascal recently wrapped production on Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated ‘Gladiator 2’ and will soon begin production on Marvel Studios’ ‘Fantastic Four.’”
While Marvel Studios has yet to make an official announcement, the update on SAG-AFTRA’s site adds weight to the speculations surrounding Pascal’s involvement, as they are unlikely to move based on speculations.
The Ongoing Cast Rumors And The Rebooted Characters
Rumors are swirling about the cast, with Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach possibly filling the roles of Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. Though nothing’s set in stone, Cillian Murphy or Mads Mikkelsen might join the party as Doctor Doom.
Doctor Doom might not grab the spotlight in ‘Fantastic Four,’ but insiders hint at bigger plans for the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Jonathan Majors parting ways with Kang, Doom could emerge as a major player, possibly appearing as one of the main villains in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’
Marvel’s cosmic side might welcome heavyweights like Javier Bardem as Galactus and a possible twist with Anya Taylor-Joy as Silver Surfer. Bardem’s tight schedule may introduce another face for the Eater of the Worlds, though.
What We Know About The Plot
Directed by Matt Shakman, ‘Fantastic Four’ promises to be a departure from the typical superhero origin story, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. In a 2022 interview, Feige shared his vision of bringing something fresh to the screen, saying:
“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before? We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”
