Carl Weathers’ passing has drawn tributes from fans and colleagues. Among those paying homage is Gina Carano, his co-star in ‘The Mandalorian,’ who shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.
In the post, Carano, who played the role of Cara Dune for two seasons before she departed from ‘Mandalorian,’ revealed the supportive conversation she had with Weathers after her firing in February 2021. According to Carano, Weathers reached out to her directly, offering words of encouragement and support during a challenging period:
“Carl called me directly after I was fired. I wasn’t in an emotional state where I could pick up the phone because of how upset I was, but we did end up speaking later on. He was gentle and encouraging and didn’t want me to give up, he was letting me know that he wasn’t throwing me away, he was trying to keep my hope alive in what seemed like a quite hopeless scenario, and he showed me he cared. That is who he was.”
Carano also touched upon the bond they formed during the filming of ‘The Mandalorian,’ where Weathers not only acted alongside her but also directed several episodes, including her first in season 2. She credited Weathers with being a mentor and a big influence on her career, saying:
“Carl was a mentor to me on set, he would put both his arms on my shoulders and look me directly in the eyes to calm my spirit. He had a wonderful perspective of telling a story that can only come through his experience and wisdom that he shared with me to help make me shine. I cherish those moments.”
Weathers’ Cause of Death
Weathers, famous for his roles in ‘Rocky’ and ‘Predator,’ passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 1, 2024. The actor’s family confirmed the news, expressing their deep sadness and praising his contributions across film, television, and sports.
Weathers’ contribution to ‘The Mandalorian‘ extended beyond his on-screen role; he was also behind the camera as a director for nine episodes and received a nomination for Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his work on the episode ‘Chapter 12: The Siege.’
