The ‘Metal Gear Solid’ movie script is still being worked on, even after two years since the last update. Producer Avi Arad reassured fans that the wait will be worth it. He recently told Game:
“We’re working on the script some more, but I can’t talk about it yet. I think everyone’s going to be really excited and surprised.”
Arad also said turning video games into movies is tricky, especially for games with complex stories and gameplay. He aims to speed up the development and pre-production phases of these projects:
“You know, they can take ten years. But I think maybe it’ll speed up just because we’re all learning things. I’ve learned things about the ones that have been released and the ones we’re working on. But also by seeing what worked in other people’s adaptations.”
The Challenge Of Adapting Game Stories Into Movie Stories
Arad talked about the ‘Metal Gear Solid’ movie’s progress and compared it to their approach to ‘Uncharted’:
“Sometimes, with game stories, if you just write down what happens, they’re fine stories; they’re the perfect story for the experience of the game. But that’s not a movie story necessarily. Then I have to decide, without access to the gameplay, is the stuff that’s left going to give me a movie that’s as distinct and relevant a movie as the game was as a game?”
Fans were excited in December 2020 when they learned Oscar Isaac would play Solid Snake. In 2022, the actor mentioned the story was still in early development. He said in an interview with IGN:
“We’re climbing through air ducts, we’re looking for the story.”
The ‘Metal Gear Solid’ movie has faced delays and false starts since its announcement by game creator Hideo Kojima in 2006. Various production teams have been involved over the years. Arad Productions is also involved in developing a live-action film based on ‘The Legend of Zelda,’ which is in early stages. As of now, there’s no set release date for the ‘Metal Gear Solid’ movie.
