The ‘Quantum Leap’ lead actors, Raymond Lee and Caitlin Bassett, said goodbye to their fans on social media after the cancellation news. Bassett posted a photo of her from the show on Instagram and wrote:
“So sorry to say farewell, leapers. Thank you so much for every moment of this amazing journey. And thank you NBC and Universal TV for the ride of a lifetime. As the wonderful QL super-fan Matt Dale said – ‘be excellent to each other.’”
NBC rebooted the original 1989 show in 2022. The show quickly got renewed for Season 2 later that year but became one of the network’s lowest-rated scripted originals by the end of its last episodes.
Lee’s Proud Of Their Work
Raymond Lee thanked devoted ‘Quantum Leap’ fans with a separate Instagram post:
“Just wanted to say a thank you to our QL fans and those who’ve tuned in. Your support was felt and always warmly received. You all have made it the ride of a lifetime.”
Mason Alexander Park, Ernie Hudson, and Peter Gaio played the other research team members opposite Lee and Bassett. So, the Ben Song actor continued:
“We’re so proud of the show we made and more proud of the stories we got to tell. And selfishly for me, I got to make some really awesome friends along the way.”
He added:
“If and when another group gets a hold of the accelerator and its capabilities, may they find us floating in time, still striving to put right what once went wrong.”
The Show Was Open For More Stories
‘Quantum Leap’ Season 2’s last episode aired as a two-hour finale on February 20, 2024. Addison (Bassett) made the leap and ended up in the past with Ben.
The show’s producer, Dean Georgaris, said the ending was a ‘completion of part of the journey.’ But he also mentioned some plans for a possible Season 3 before it was canceled. He told TVLine:
“We’ve spent two seasons building up two great leapers and a supporting cast that now may or may not have a code that may or may not work again to pull people out, and it really becomes about what can we affirmatively do with this new dynamic.”
His words went on:
“The fact that we can have a little more humor now because we don’t have this heaviness hanging over us. We spent two seasons building up a launchpad to a whole new journey.”
