Quentin Tarantino Can’t Stand ‘Dune’ Movies And Has A Valid Reason

The director has no interest in watching Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel series despite positive reviews.

Quentin Tarantino admitted to not seeing Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ movies during a recent appearance on ‘The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast,’ Asked if he thought ‘Dune: Part Two’ was the best release of 2024 as many put it, the director said he had no plans to watch it. “I saw [David Lynch’s] ‘Dune’ a couple of times. I don’t need to see that story again,” he noted.

Tarantino shared a general distaste in watching remakes, saying, “It’s one after another of this remake and that remake. People ask, ‘Have you seen ‘Dune?’ Have you seen ‘Ripley?’ Have you seen ‘Shōgun?’’ And I’m like no, no, no, no. There’s six or seven Ripley books. If you do one again, why are you doing the same one that they’ve done twice already? I’ve seen that story twice before, and I didn’t really like it in either version, so I’m not really interested in seeing it a third time. If you did another story, that would be interesting enough to give it a shot.”

While Tarantino may not be a fan, other big names in the film industry have praised Villeneuve’s ‘Dune,’ with Steven Spielberg describing his take on the series as “one of the most brilliant science-fiction films I’ve ever seen.”

Villeneuve is now working on the third installment in his franchise. This next film will be based on Frank Herbert’s second ‘Dune’ book, ‘Dune Messiah,’ which picks up around a decade into Paul Astreides’ rule as Emperor.

The script is still in development, Warner Bros., and the director previously confirmed. There is no official release date yet, but Villeneuve’s next release for the studio, set for December 18, 2026, is believed to be ‘Dune Messiah.’
