Quentin Tarantino recently shared his thoughts on ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ and he has a lot to say.
On a recent episode of The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Tarantino revealed that he really enjoyed the movie. “I really, really liked it,” he said on the podcast. He explained that he went into the movie expecting it to be more of an intellectual exercise —something he’d appreciate from a distance— but he ended up enjoying it more than he thought.
Tarantino also believes that director Todd Phillips approached ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ in a unique way. “Todd Phillips is the Joker. The Joker directed the movie,” Tarantino said. “And then his big surprise gift – haha! – the jack in the box, when he offers you his hand for a handshake and you get a buzzer with 10,000 volts shooting you – is the comic book geeks. He’s saying f*ck you to all of them. He’s saying f*ck you to the movie audience. He’s saying f*ck you to Hollywood. He’s saying f*ck you to anybody who owns any stock at DC and Warner Brothers.”
Tarantino’s take is that Phillips didn’t hold back, spending the studio’s money and delivering a film that feels like a rebellious act against the system.
According to Tarantino, the musical sequences in the film were also a highlight. “I really got caught up into it. I really liked the musical sequences. I got really caught up. I thought the more banal the songs were, the better they were.” He even found the film ‘really funny.’
Both critics and fans weren’t impressed with ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ and Warner Bros. is now hoping to recover some of their losses through digital sales. The film is expected to result in a big financial loss for the studio.
