Reacher’s Alan Ritchson On Being James Gunn’s New Batman: ‘All I Can Do Is Laugh’

Ritchson is happy about the idea but isn’t sure if he’s the right fit.

In a recent interview with BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, Alan Ritchson of ‘Reacher’ talked about his potential to appear as Batman in James Gunn’s reboot of the franchise.

During the conversation, Ritchson addressed the rumors and fan support for him to step into the role of Bruce Wayne, saying:

“The fact that people are interested in me playing Batman is a real honor and privilege. It’s one of the first characters I fell in love with as a child: I still remember the big, long pistol coming out of Joker’s pants as he goes to shoot down the Batplane. Those iconic moments really resonated with me as a child. For there to even be a conversation or a rumor mill surrounding this role, for me… all I can do is laugh. I just think it’s wild that’s where we are.”

Doubting he may be too old for the role, Ritchson added:

“Who knows what they have planned for the franchise? If they want to go much younger and tell these origin stories, sounds like that’s kind of…”

When he was told Gunn’s Batman would need to be old enough to be a father, the actor said:

“Okay, then, you know… I would love to. I would absolutely love to. It’s one of the coolest characters of all time.”

Details About ‘The Brave and the Bold’ Are Scarce

The Brave and the Bold,‘ which focuses on Batman and Damian Wayne’s Robin, has yet to announce its cast. Ritchson’s career, his previous portrayals of Arthur Curry/Aquaman in ‘Smallville’ and Hawk in ‘Titans,’ alongside voice work for Raphael in the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ series, positions him as a strong contender for the part.

Adding to the discussion, Robert Patrick, Ritchson’s co-star in ‘Reacher,’ expressed confidence in Ritchson’s potential collaboration with Gunn, touching upon the creative synergy Ritchson could bring to the Batman role under Gunn’s direction. Despite Patrick’s and fans’ support, official casting decisions remain under wraps, with Gunn’s DCU vision still unfolding.

As ‘The Brave and the Bold’ takes its initial steps, including script development and pre-production, the role of Batman hangs in the balance. Meanwhile, Ritchson’s upcoming projects, such as ‘Ordinary Angels’ and ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,’ keep him in the limelight.
