‘Rick and Morty: The Anime’ Creators Set One Condition For Potential Season 2

The new Adult Swim show premiered on August 16.

‘Rick and Morty: The Anime’ creators, Takashi Sano and Joseph Chou, recently talked to ComicBook about their new 10–episode series.

When asked if there was a potential for a second season, they said, “Oh, yeah. Yeah, he has a lot of things that he actually wants to do, if he’s given the opportunity to do another one. So, [the] hard part is not what to make, it’s like, what to do.”

“Like, what can I do? The really hard part is what do I choose in terms of the things that I wanna do? Because it’s just the kind of freedom that’s given to do the show. It’s just incredible. So yeah, he would love that opportunity. Hopefully, fans will love it and we’ll get the call to do another one.”

The new spinoff followed five short films released from March 29, 2020, to November 12, 2021, and introduced a multiversal story. The original cast from the main series’ English version didn’t return to reprise their roles. Instead, Joe Daniels and Gabriel Regojo appeared as Rick and Morty, respectively.

‘Rick and Morty: The Anime’ also introduced some new characters like Elle the Time Traveler, along with the new voice acting team. Sano and Chou said they had plenty of creative freedom while making the show.

“It was kind of like being given a blank check,” they explained. “So, meaning, as long as we don’t double up for what we’re doing currently, go do what you do, and play with these characters. And so, he was given a complete blank check, which is great.”

The story followed the alternate versions of the Smith household between the original show’s fifth and sixth seasons. ‘Rick and Morty’ Season 7 hit the screens in October 2023.
