Original ‘Ghostbusters’ star Rick Moranis said no to a big offer to return to the latest movie in the series.
Ernie Hudson, who has played Winston in the franchise, recently shared some inside details about Moranis’ decision. According to Hudson, Moranis chose not to return as Louis Tully in ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,’ and he even thought about visiting him to change his mind:
“I don’t know why. I haven’t had a personal conversation. I talked to Ivan Reitman before he transitioned, who I know had spent a lot of time trying to convince Rick. I know that the other guys have talked to him, and I’m not sure why. He just said no. I know they offered him more money than they offered me. And if I thought going to his house would make a difference, I’d be there. Because I’d love to see [him].”
Moranis hasn’t acted in a movie since 2006. Hudson suggests he may have retired from acting.
‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Disappointed Fans
‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ is the latest addition to the Ghostbusters story. It follows a new group of characters: the Spengler family. The movie brought back almost all the original stars, but Moranis wasn’t one of them.
The movie didn’t do as well as expected at the box office. It earned about $195.3 million on a budget of $100 million. This may affect the future of the ‘Ghostbusters’ as it also received mixed responses from the audience.
‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ is currently available for viewing on various video-on-demand services and is getting ready for its release on digital and Blu-ray formats on June 24.
