In 2018, Barr replied to a Twitter thread about Valerie Jarrett, a senior advisor to former President Obama. It read “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” via PBS News.
The tweet was criticized as racist toward Jarrett (“vj”). Barr first defended it, but later apologized, according to Variety. “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I am now leaving Twitter,” Barr wrote on X.
Despite her apology, ABC canceled ‘Roseanne’ and took the show off their website. Reruns were also removed from the Laff channel.
