Simu Liu and Jackie Chan came together in Canada this week. A Marvel fan page posted the news on Instagram, along with a few pictures of the two actors.
Fans hoped this meeting meant a Chan-Liu collaboration was on the way in the comments section. Someone suggested:
“Jackie Chan in ‘Shang-Chi 2’ confirmed.”
Another person wrote:
“Yo, imagine Jackie Chan as old man Shang-Chi.”
‘Shang-Chi’ Director Wants To Work With Chan
Talks of Jackie Chan’s involvement in the ‘Shang-Chi’ sequel began in 2021 after the first film’s release. Director Destin Daniel Cretton mentioned his interest in working with Chan during an interview with CinemaBlend:
“I mean, if we could ever get Jackie [Chan] into a movie, that would be a lifelong dream of mine.”
The ‘Rush Hour’ star was on a break from the American film industry at the time to focus on different genres and avoid ‘repeating’ himself. He recently returned to Hollywood with a new ‘Karate Kid’ film, though. So, it may be possible to see him in ‘Shang-Chi 2’ alongside Simu Liu.
Jackie Chan’s Upcoming Film
The upcoming ‘Karate Kid’ starring Ben Wang brings Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan back in their previous roles. Joshua Jackson, Shaunette Renée Wilson, and Sadie Stanley joins them in the lineup.
The movie follows a Chinese teenager on the East Coast as he learns martial arts from Chan and Machhio. It waits for release on May 30, 2025, following the production wrap-up this month.
Meanwhile, ‘Shang-Chi 2’ gets ready to start filming in March 2025 for an unknown release date.
