Rumor: New ‘Resident Evil’ Movie Is On The Way

Sony is rumored to be working on a new ‘Resident Evil’ movie and has its eye on ‘Barbarian’ director Zach Cregger.

There are rumors that a new ‘Resident Evil’ movie might be in the works.

As TheInseider reports, Sony wants ‘Barbarian’ director Zach Cregger to take charge of the project. Cregger could be in talks for the film after turning down an offer to direct a reboot of ‘Clue.’ Nothing has been confirmed yet, and plans for movies like this can change quickly.

Zach Cregger’s ‘Barbarian’ is a horror movie with plot twists, dark mysteries, and a creature with a sympathetic backstory. Many of these sound similar to the ‘Resident Evil’ video games, so this may make him a potentially good match for the movie.

This wouldn’t be the first ‘Resident Evil’ movie, though. There have been seven films in the series so far. The first six movies are all connected to each other, but the seventh movie, ‘Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City,’ was a reboot. It stayed closer to the story of the games but had mixed reviews, and no official sequel has been announced.

In 2023, it was reported that a production company named Raccoon HG Film Productions received $2 million to film a movie called ‘Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.’ It’s been over a year, and there’s still no confirmation from Sony about the project.

Johannes Roberts directed ‘Welcome to Raccoon City,’ and he talked about wanting to make a sequel before. But he may be busy working on his shark horror movie ‘The Red Triangle.’ So, Cregger could direct a completely new version of ‘Resident Evil’ or continue where the last film left off.
