Drag queen Chi Chi DeVayne, whose real name is Zavion Michael Davenport died on August 20, at the age of 34.
The star, who grabbed great attention for her appearance on the eighth season of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ was diagnosed with scleroderma in 2018, a shortly after, DeVayne was hospitalized with a diagnosis of kidney failure related to scleroderma. The drag queen passed away from pneumonia he contracted after the hospitalization.
The queen said in a video message shared a few days ago, which shows her in a hospital bed:
“Keep me in your prayers. I’ll be back soon.”
DeVayne’s family shared a statement through the star’s verified Instagram account, including these words:
“It is with tremendous sorrow that my family and I announce the passing of my beloved son, Zavion Michael Davenport, the world-renowned ‘Chi Chi DeVayne. His final words to his family and fans, ‘Never give up!’”
As for the producer and the host of the reality competition series ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ RuPaul Andre Charles spoke to Entertainment Weekly and sent her condolences for Chi Chi, by saying:
“I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne. I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine down on us all.”
DeVayne is the second drag race contestant passed away, following the death of Sahara Davenport, who died of heart failure.
