Ryan Reynolds said Nicolas Cage nearly had a Ghost Rider cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’
Collider’s editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub asked if Cage’s Ghost Rider might return. Reynolds responded simply, “Yes.” The actor added, “Came to a conversation for sure. Yeah, but no.”
The record-breaking Marvel blockbuster brings back several actors as their old comic book characters, like Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, and Wesley Snipes as Blade. Reynolds also wanted Cage to be part of the film’s big cameos but it didn’t happen.
Cage played Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider in two movies, ‘Ghost Rider’ and ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.’ These movies were released by Sony. Cage was wanted for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ but Patrick Stewart was not.
Fans thought Stewart might return as Charles Xavier since he starred with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in many ‘X-Men’ movies and had a cameo in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’
“Never even discussed,’ director Shawn Levy discussed Stewart’s return on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “And it was studied. Studied by Emma Corrin big time because the Cassandra sibling-hood to Professor X is really interesting to us. But no, never discussed. Never, never considered.”
The actors who came back for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ thanked Reynolds and Levy after the movie’s record-breaking opening weekend. Evans shared on social media, “[It] was a dream come true and he’ll always have a special place in my heart.”
Evans hadn’t played Johnny Storm since 2007. Channing Tatum also appeared as Gambit, a role he had tried to bring to the screen for years. Tatum thanked Reynolds on social media for finally giving him the chance to play the character.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is now showing in theaters across the country from Disney.
