Saoirse Ronan talked about her wish-list for future roles and shared special interest in playing a James Bond villain in a new interview with Vanity Fair.
The actress said, “I will stand by really wanting to play a Bond villain, which I will say again and again. Because any time that I’ve gotten a chance to play someone who’s a little bit evil, I just love it. And I think it would be really fun to do that again.”
She then explained, “There’s a lot to unpack there, you know? There’s a lot to work on, which I like. But that is what I do like about something like Bond in general, is that the characters are very interesting. And I do think there’s something kind of cool about having a female villain who wants to take him down and doesn’t just want to fall in love with him.”
Future Bond movies don’t have an official cast yet. While Aaron Taylor-Johnson is one of popular names suggested for the leading part, some actresses are interested in taking over 007 from Daniel Craig.
Many including Sophie Di Martino and Famke Janssen showed interest in playing a female Bond so far. But producer Barbara Broccoli made it clear that James Bond would remain a male character.
“James Bond can be of any color, but he is male,” she previously told Variety. “I believe we should be creating new characters for women – strong female characters. I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”
The search for a new James Bond and his villain is ongoing though EON Productions is not actively working to bring the series back at the moment.
