Why Was Season 2 of ‘Ratched’ Canceled?
‘Ratched,‘ which premiered on Netflix in September 2020, is a psychological thriller about the backstory of Nurse Mildred Ratched, a character from ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.’ The series was initially met with a positive response and secured a two-season order from Netflix in 2017.
Despite the lack of a detailed explanation from Netflix about the decision not to move forward with a second season, ‘Ratched’ had previously received widespread attention for its storytelling and visuals. Paulson’s portrayal of the nurse earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a TV Drama and a nomination for Best Villain at the Critics’ Choice Super Awards. Besides, the show’s first season received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations and also gave Sophie Okonedo a guest actress nomination.
Developed by Ryan Murphy, ‘Ratched’ had a star-studded cast, including Finn Wittrock, Cynthia Nixon, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Sharon Stone, Amanda Plummer, and Vincent D’Onofrio. At its launch, the show also secured the No. 1 spot in the Nielsen ratings.
Despite this disappointing update, Sarah Paulson’s career continues with upcoming projects such as ‘Dust,‘ ‘Clybourne Park,‘ ‘The Way Down,‘ and ‘I Am Sybil.‘ The first and only season of ‘Ratched’ remains available for streaming on Netflix.
