‘The Stoic’ follows a group of mercenaries who, after raiding a gang’s den, flee to a rural hideout with two hostages. One of the gang members hunts them down in rage to get revenge.
Scott Wright plays the titular character named Aurelius with inspiration from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator, according to a recent interview.
Asked if he looked anywhere specific in the franchise to shape his character, the actor shared with ComicBook, “I mean, when you mention the Terminator, maybe subliminally, there was an element of that. He’s not emotional at all. There’s probably only one part after he’s been beaten up and shot a few times that he screams and blows his whistle. The Terminator is a really, really good reference for it, totally.”
Aurelius appeared in the new movie as a man of action rather than words. Wright said other sources also helped his Stoic come to life.
“I quite liked that and there are less lines to learn as well. It was good,” he told the outlet. “I had the idea of coming up and giving him a Celtic, Nordic, Danish accent that wasn’t quite my own. I looked at films with Mads Mikkelsen and you imitate, as an actor, people in a little way. I didn’t base the character on him but that was a starting point, a dilution of his accent.”
“It was great. It was last year when we filmed it and it was really, really fantastic. In the past, I come from a soap background, so it was great to let fly and get into the character. You don’t have time in soaps.”
‘The Stoic’ also featured ‘X-Men: First Class’ star Jason Flemyng, along with Jarreau Benjamin, Stuart Brennan, Anka Evans, and Tom Feasby. Jon Eckersley wrote and directed the movie now available on Digital and On Demand.
