As reported by Variety, Friends star Courteney Cox has officially joined the cast of the upcoming ‘Scream 7.’
Cox returns as Gale Weathers, a reporter-turned-author who has been in every ‘Scream’ movie. Neve Campbell is back as Sidney Prescott, and Mason Gooding returns as Chad Meeks-Martin.
New cast members include Isabel May as Sidney’s daughter and Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp in unknown roles.
“I’m not officially signed on. I’m not, but there will be a ‘Scream 7,'” Courteney told Variety in September. Cox said she was excited to return but was waiting for the final script. She’s happy the new film will be directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first ‘Scream’ movie in 1996.
The plot of ‘Scream 7’ is a secret. It will be released worldwide on February 27, 2026. The film comes after ‘Scream VI,’ which earned over $108 million in the U.S. in March 2023. All the ‘Scream’ movies together have made more than $900 million worldwide.
Williamson will direct the new movie from a script by Guy Busick. James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein will produce, as they did for the 2022 ‘Scream’ reboot and ‘Scream VI.’
Unlike the last two ‘Scream’ movies, this one has faced many issues. First, star Melissa Barrera was fired after commenting on social media about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Then, Jenna Ortega left due to a scheduling conflict with ‘Wednesday’s second season. A month later, director Christopher Landon quit.
Things improved in March 2024 when Campbell signed a deal to return. She had skipped ‘Scream VI’ due to a pay dispute. Tha actress told people at the time, “I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years. And as a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued.”
Campbell added, “I honestly don’t believe that if I were a man and had done five instalments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man.”
Cox was also recently seen in ‘Shining Vale’ with Greg Kinnear, which aired for two seasons on Starz.
