Marvel announced Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom at last summer’s San Francisco Comic-Con, receiving mixed reviews from fans. Sebastian Stan, who is also set to return in the MCU’s upcoming ‘Thunderbolts*,’ shared his thoughts about the news in a recent interview with GQ.
“I hope I’m in a scene with him,” the actor said. “Is there any other guy that could pull that off? I don’t know, probably not. After ‘Tropic Thunder,’ is there anything that guy can’t do?”
Downey’s return to the MCU as a new villain surprised many, including his fellow ‘Avengers’ co-stars. Jeremy Renner previously admitted he didn’t know about the news until it went public despite being in a group chat with Downey and other cast members.
Elizabeth Olsen later noted in an interview with The Standard, “Lots of people were texting me saying, ‘I can’t believe this about Downey, did you know?’ and I was like, ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about’ and had to go on the internet to find out.”
Still, they shared excitement over the Iron Man actor’s return with Renner adding, “It’s exciting news. I’m really, really excited about it.”
RDJ is now set to play the main villain in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ Meanwhile, Marvel’s next films, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘Thunderbolts*,’ are slated for release in early 2025.
